Meteorology

Is your business dependent on weather data? Do you need historical observations, forecast data, climate information, or weather-derived data?

Air Environment can help.

We can analyse the key meteorological elements affecting a business and its environment in a variety of ways – from making predictions using computer models to analysing and implementing data from a weather monitoring program.

We are proficient with a range of complex numerical weather prediction models and data analysis techniques, and have developed inhouse software tools specifically for analysing and assessing meteorological data.

Customised weather data

Air Environment can generate meteorological datasets for any location on the globe.

Prognostic tools such as the Weather Research and Forecast (WRF) model are configured and optimised for your area to generate a 3D weather dataset. The datasets generated are then processed using the Mesoscale Model Interface Program (MMIF) or CALWRF and converted into the formats that you require such as:

Our internal host of modelling computers combined with cloud computing capabilities means we can quickly and efficiently process huge datasets.

Our meteorological data can be used to drive air dispersion models in impact assessments of emissions, and to understand where the emissions came from when monitoring the ambient air at a site.

We have access to observations, reanalysis datasets, and climate projection datasets. And if you can’t directly find what you need from whatever is available, we can generate bespoke datasets using established models. This includes CALPUFF-ready and AERMOD-ready datasets using the WRF and the MMIF modelling systems, and other prognostic modelling systems like CALTAPM, CALWRF, CALMET, AERMET and Australia’s CSIRO-developed The Air Pollution Model (TAPM).

For complex three-dimensional datasets we have the expertise to know the best tools for the job and, when required, we develop our own analysis tools inhouse to format and validate your data in the most efficient manner possible. We also use databases, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) to customise the input datasets as needed.

Our experts have generated datasets using WRF/MMIF and TAPM for Australia, the Middle East and Asia for a number of applications including dispersion modelling, tropical cyclone tracking and long-term climate analysis.

Why purchase weather data from Air Environment?

  • We do not use a one-size-fits-all configuration. We consider the best configuration for each model run and prioritise the relevant physical options (such as rainfall vs. snow) to set the right parameters. Our model configurations are optimised for the exact location of your site. This means you are getting the most accurate data possible.
  • We have the expertise to improve on WRF’s default geophysical databases, which is critical for model configuration. We use publicly available geodatabases and whatever else you can provide to improve coastal delineation, update land cover classes, and increase resolution of topography so that the model is configured with the most suitable input parameters.
  • Timing and delivery are our priority. We have an array of inhouse tools for accurate and efficient data processing. Our internal host of modelling computers combined with cloud computing capabilities means that we can deliver accurate datasets in the quickest possible time.
  • We validate model performance and can provide model analysis and validation reports to support your study.
  • We always run the most recent version of WRF because we recognize the importance of using the most up-to-date and accurate data available.
